Touch-up pens for gates and doors – choosing and applying RAL colours correctly

Repair scratches, protect edges, match powder coating colors: Here you will find all the important RAL touch-up pens from our “Touch-up pens for gates & doors” collection – with applications, tips, and direct links.

Why touch-up pens? (Benefits & Uses)

Touch-up pens are the quickest solution for concealing scratches, stone chips or mounting edges on sectional doors and industrial doors – without the need for complete repainting.

They protect the surface from corrosion, enhance the appearance and resale value, and – thanks to RAL – match powder-coated panels precisely.

Typical locations: cut edges, screw heads, butt edges on panels, frames, running rails, cover profiles.

Selection guide: RAL colours & substrates

1) Hue

Gray tones (RAL 7016, 7035, 7024) predominate for gates. Green tones (RAL 6024, 6029, 6032) are often used for outdoor facilities and fence/gate combinations.

2) Subsurface

  • Galvanized / powder-coated steel: Clean the surface, degrease it, sand it (P800–1000), then paint it.
  • Powder-coated aluminum: clean smoothly, use primer if necessary.
  • Stainless steel / bare edge: lightly sand, dust-free, apply thinly – preferably two thin coats.

3) Gloss & Durability

Our pens are designed for outdoor durability . High-gloss coatings may require a second coat for uniform reflection.

How‑to: Applying touch-up pen – step by step

  1. Cleaning & degreasing: Clean the surface with a mild cleaner and degrease with isopropanol.
  2. Sanding (fine): Lightly mattify the scratched area with P800–P1000, remove dust.
  3. Test line: Check the color on a hidden area.
  4. Application: Shake the touch-up pen well and apply a thin layer. Several thin coats will prevent runs.
  5. Allow to dry: 20–60 minutes depending on the environment; apply a second coat if necessary.
  6. Finish: Allow to cure, optionally gently polish (high-gloss surfaces).

Pro tip: Color-match the screw heads before assembly to ensure the front surfaces remain homogeneous.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find the right RAL color?

Either on the nameplate/property documentation or by comparing with RAL charts. For doors, 7016, 7035, and 7024 are very common.

Does the touch-up pen stick to powder-coated surfaces?

Yes – with proper preparation (cleaning, light sanding, degreasing). Apply a thin layer, preferably twice.

What to do if the damage is deeper?

Fill any indentations if necessary (putty knife/primer pen), then use a touch-up pen. If rust is at risk, contact a specialist.

Can I customize the color of screw heads?

Clear – clamp the screw, apply a thin coat of touch-up paint to the head, let it dry, and install. This ensures the front remains uniform.

Inside or outside – does it make a difference?

Our RAL markers are weatherproof. When using them outdoors, please consider the matching materials (e.g., stainless steel for coastal/industrial areas).
